About the Messenger Boy Reunions

Following three successful reunion events for former Post Office Telegram Messenger Boys (Wags), held in February 2004, June 2005 and September 2006, it had been encouraging. So much, that in 2007 a 4th reunion took place, and this section of the website was launched.

We have many former Telegram Messenger Boys who started their service in the late 1930’s, early 1940’s and later coming from all over the country to attend this event. (Approx 145 people with roughly 3000 -3600 years service between them!) Together, we celebrated 25 years since the end of the Telegrams Messenger Boys. It was great catching up on stories from times before telephones, when a telegram was the only way of getting a message to someone on the same day. Most of the telegram boys began work aged 14 or 15 and delivered telegrams on foot, by bike and then motorcycles.
